What does ISO Class 4 mean for cleanrooms?
ISO Class 4 (>0.5µm) is one of the strictest international standards for air cleanliness. It means only a very small number of airborne particles are allowed in the space. ClearTone BioCare is classified to support cleanrooms built to this standard (ISO 14644-1). Combined with its M1 microbiological classification, that makes it suitable for environments requiring the highest standards of cleanliness and infection control.
Does fitting BioCare automatically make my room ISO Class 4 certified?
No. ISO Class 4 certification applies to the finished room as a whole, including the air handling and ventilation, not to a single ceiling tile. BioCare is classified to support ISO Class 4 conditions, but the room itself still needs to be tested once everything’s installed.
What does Microbiological Class M1 mean?
M1 is the highest microbiological cleanliness class under NF S 90-351, the standard for controlling contamination in healthcare environments. It means BioCare is suitable for healthcare and other environments where controlling bacteria and contamination really matters. And because the core is stone wool, the material itself gives microorganisms nothing to feed on.
What is the reaction to fire classification?
BioCare is rated A1 for reaction to fire — the highest classification available, meaning it’s non-combustible. It’s been tested against the full set of European fire standards: EN 13823 (heat release and smoke production), EN ISO 1716 (calorific value) and EN ISO 1182 (non-combustibility), and classified A1 in accordance with EN 13501-1:2018. As with any suspended ceiling system, overall fire performance in a building depends on the complete assembly (grid, tile, and any adjacent construction), not the tile alone.
Is it compatible with a standard grid, or need specialist installation?
It’s a 595 × 595mm square-edge tile that fits straight into a standard 600 × 600mm lay-in grid, at 15mm thickness. No specialist training or tools are needed; it installs the same way as a standard suspended ceiling tile, following the directional arrow on the rear face for pattern and shade consistency.
Can BioCare be cleaned and maintained?
Yes. It has Class 2 wet scrub resistance (19.8µm after 200 cycles, tested to EN ISO 11998), so copes well with regular cleaning in clinical and controlled environments. Just vacuum it with a soft brush attachment for day-to-day routine cleaning. Its stone wool core provides no nutrient for microorganisms, so it doesn’t support mould or bacterial growth.
What is the acoustic and light performance like?
BioCare has excellent sound absorption — αw 1.0 (Class A), the highest rating on the scale — helping to cut down noise and echo. That makes for a calmer, more comfortable space which matters in hospitals and healthcare settings, and in commercial or industrial environments where people need to concentrate or rest. Its white surface gives 87% light reflectance, supporting brighter spaces with lower lighting demand.
Will it cope with high humidity?
Yes - it’s built to handle high humidity (up to 95% relative humidity) without degrading, and the stone wool core doesn’t give bacteria or mould anything to feed on.
